The challenge

Start-up company FlowGem had an idea for innovative leak detection technology in the home – and enlisted us to engineer a trial system to demonstrate the pioneering approach. The aim was to use ‘internet of things’ technology to remotely monitor water flow patterns in homes.

The solution

The leak detection technology comprises a small connected sensor in each property, simply and easily installed on the incoming water pipe.

Data from the sensor is transmitted to the cloud and processed to build up a picture of water usage. The homeowner is alerted by a text message or phone call if a leak is detected.

The benefits

Our work enabled FlowGem to demonstrate the potential value of its technology at an early stage in the development of the business. It was part of a trial with Centrica, which was introducing the technology into its Connected Home business.
