About the role

As our Senior Consultant Chemist, you will apply a ‘first principles’ analysis and problem-solving approach to our toughest innovation challenges. A practical chemist, you will have a good understanding of the product development process gained by working hands on, taking products from concept to market. This role will be key to building our chemistry capability and you will help to define and develop the team.

You will provide inspiration and leadership to our clients and team of scientists, helping to develop our expertise and facilities. Working within our multidisciplinary teams on major life science and consumer product development projects, you will be responsible for developing technical solutions for a range of products and processes.

  • Extend our understanding from our core physical sciences, mechanical and electrical engineering expertise into physical chemistry and chemical engineering
  • Provide technical input to help navigate technical challenges, and use your chemistry knowledge to help steer development projects towards practical and feasible outcomes
  • Communicate confidently with clients and colleagues of different disciplines to communicate chemistry concepts and principles, and inspire innovation
  • Successfully lead multidisciplinary projects within budget and timescales
  • Actively contribute to sales and marketing by writing proposals and creating marketing collateral
  • Build our chemistry capability by nurturing a team and building appropriate facilities
     

About you

  • 1st or 2:1 degree in a Chemistry or Natural Science (with a chemistry bias) from a top tier university
  • A postgraduate science degree from a top tier university
  • Strong creative and technical abilities in a range of areas such as materials science, polymers synthesis, analytical methods and test method development and validation
  • A track record of high-quality publications and/or inventions in the discipline
  • Strong drive to rapidly absorb and develop further technical, project leadership, and business development skills
  • Excellent project leadership skills with experience of leading multidisciplinary product development teams involving scientists and engineers taking responsibility for quality, time, and cost
  • Practical, hands on approach to product development
  • Excellent presentation skills and an effective communicator
  • Significant commercial awareness gained in one of the following environments: technical / design consultancy; technology start-up; R&D / new product development department
