Innovative technology and design consultancy Cambridge Design Partnership today announced the appointment of two new partners and a major investment to expand facilities at its Cambridge base.

The appointment of two new partners, James Baker and Ben Strutt will help build CDP’s management capability and commitment to quality to sustain the company’s future growth plans. The new partners also bring in-depth sector expertise in Cleantech and Consumer Goods to the management team.

James Baker, Senior Electronics engineer, has worked at CDP since 2007. James is an expert in the Cleantech sector and is working with major energy providers to bring innovative new technologies to market. “I’m delighted to become a partner at CDP and look forward to helping our clients create value through the application of new technology. With the obligations placed on energy companies to deliver reduced emissions and increased efficiency over the coming years, our sector expertise and multidisciplinary engineering team can help customers launch ‘first of a kind’ new products and move towards meeting these requirements.”

Ben Strutt joined Cambridge Design Partnership over two years ago from front end innovation roles in Dyson and Black & Decker. Ben leads CDP’s growing capability in industrial design and customer insight research. “I am thrilled to be leading our world class Industrial Design and User Experience team to deliver insights and design led growth for our customers by placing the user at the heart of our R&D process. The proof that our approach works is a growing international list of companies who are already enjoying the benefits of our seamless, fully integrated innovation capability.”

Seeing an opportunity to meet the increasing demand for innovative product development services worldwide, Cambridge Design Partnership has been expanding both in Cambridge UK and Palo Alto in Silicon Valley, California. Last year saw 19 new permanent staff join the company – taking the overall headcount to 60 scientists, engineers and designers.

In order to accommodate this growing team and diverse range of projects, earlier this year the company invested in a new building on a brown field site adjacent to their current offices in Toft. Due to be completed in October, Cambridge Design Partnership’s new R&D centre will provide state-of-the-art laboratories, prototyping workshops and user experience suite together with a high-tech conference facility able to accommodate over 100 delegates. Press will be invited to view the new building at the official opening in early 2014.

Our long term strategy to maintain steady organic growth enables us to continue to deliver outstanding creativity and high quality innovation to our customers. Recently we have seen an increasing level of enquiries from blue chip customers looking to accelerate their innovation pipelines,” commented Mike Cane, Partner and Founder, Cambridge Design Partnership. “And the appointment of new partners is part of our plan to offer our clients a ‘full service’ multidisciplinary product innovation capability across the healthcare, consumer and cleantech sectors.

“When our new R&D facility opens later this year we will be able to offer our clients an increasing range of specialist product development capabilities such as short run manufacturing to support clinical and user trials, rapid prototyping, medical device verification and validation and front end insight generation and user experience research using in-house facilities. In short, we will have the specialist capabilities international customers expect from a leading world class R&D provider.”
