Our wearable connected vital signs monitor for first response medics has been shortlisted in the upcoming Elektra Awards for ‘design team of the year’.

The prestigious Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards 2016 presented by Electronics Weekly, will celebrate excellence in design, innovation and technology from across the electronics industry with over 400 guests. The winner will be announced at the annual ceremony, taking place on the 1 December 2016.

Cambridge Design Partnership’s First Response Monitor is the world’s first wearable device designed to monitor the vital signs of multiple trauma patients for emergency response in disasters and battlefield situations.

The small device simply clips onto a patient’s nose and provides ‘at-a-glance’ displays of both heart rate and respiratory rate. Data can be collected from multiple monitors and displayed through trends graphs on a single mobile device, enabling medics to triage a number of trauma patients and assess their condition over time.

The in-house design team who worked on developing the monitor comprised electronics and software engineers and human centred design specialists with expertise in many areas including initial user understanding, stakeholder research, design insight, industrial design, prototyping, low-cost miniaturised sensing, low-power, connected and user interface solutions.
