Micro engineering, electromagnetics and packaging for world-leading blood glucose lancing device
The global business in diabetes diagnostics kits may be worth $5Bn but test strips, lancets and meters can be inconvenient, messy and painful to use. With an electronic lancing engine idea, US start up Pelikan Technologies aimed to disrupt the market with an integrated blood glucose self monitoring device - but struggled to find specialist engineering skills in the US.
50 lancets in a disposable sterile sealed cartridge
Foil sealing onto non-planar moulded substrate
Automated selection and replacing of each lancet
Electronic linear drive lancing control system
Together, Pelikan and Cambridge Design Partnership created the future of blood glucose monitoring - it is accurate, effective, painless and above all, it is convenient. "Cambridge Design Partnership approached each of our projects with vision, insight and intelligent thinking. Their team really is dedicated to answeing our brief, and they integrate well with our in-house engineers. CDP are super-knowledgeable in medical engineering." CEO, Pelikan Technologies
